Cristian S. Vimer, PhD, PE

Cristian Vimer has over 20 years of experience in structural design and management of complex projects. Cristian's expertise is in design and construction of new building structures, but also in renovation, adaptive reuse and preservation of historical buildings. Cristian was selected to serve as a member of the Structural Technical Committee for the New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) to perform a comprehensive review of the proposed New York City Building Code (NYCBC) and make recommendations to the City Council for revisions.

He holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and a MS from the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania. He co-authored a book and published several articles in prestigious journals. Besides his structural engineering work he is involved in research projects, related to structural degradation and he has taught as an adjunct professor various courses at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. He continues to collaborate with the Civil and Urban Engineering Department of NYU on developing sensing solutions for the infrastructures (carried on by VM Technology).

Prior to founding this company, Cristian was a principal and the head of the Special Projects Group at Wexler Associates. The group was responsible for design and coordination of the most challenging projects, including special wind and seismic design, redevelopment of landmark sites, projects requiring New York City Transit Authority or Port Authority of NY and NJ approval.

Erik A. Madsen, PE

Erik Madsen has almost 20 years of experience in the design and construction of new building structures, adaptive reuse projects, property condition assessment and the design of temporary structures for construction. Erik has worked on buildings from every decade since the mid-1800’s through the present and he continues to develop new methods of assisting designers and owners reach their goals with existing structures. His adventurous nature and collaborative skills have enabled his engineering expertise to assist many creative minds and projects.

After graduating from University of Illinois, Erik worked briefly at Bowman, Barrett & Associates, a renowned bridge design firm in Chicago, then he pursued his graduate degree at Berkeley University. He relocated to New York in 2001 and worked for almost ten years at DeSimone Consulting Engineering. Erik has taught at a number of schools and universities including Pratt Institute, CUNY and NYU, His renovation course at NYU’s Schack school of continuing education is one of the most popular and intellectually rigorous courses in their continuing education department. Erik was selected to serve as a member of the Structural Technical Committee for the New York City DOB.

Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Erik volunteered and performed building assessments on a large number of structures, including the second tallest building in Port Au Prince. He continues to volunteer structural engineering services part time for reconstruction projects in Haiti, South America and Africa.
