Cristian Vimer, PhD, pe

Cristian Vimer has over twenty years of experience in structural design and management of complex projects. Cristian's expertise is in design and construction management of new building structures, but also in renovation, adaptive reuse and preservation of historical buildings. Cristian holds a PhD from NYU Tandon School of Engineering (formerly Brooklyn Polytechnic University) with a major in Structural Engineering and a minor in Construction Management and a Master’s in Construction Management from the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania.

Prior to founding this company, Cristian was a Principal and the Head of the Special Projects Group at Wexler Associates. The group was responsible for design and coordination of the most challenging projects, including special wind and seismic design, redevelopment of landmark sites, projects requiring New York City Transit Authority or Port Authority of NY and NJ approval. 

Cristian is a member of the current NYC Department of Buildings Code Revision Structural Technical Committee for the new NYC Building Code that is scheduled for 2020. He is also a member of the ASCE SEI Structures Group and of SEAoNY. Cristian continues to be involved in research projects related to structural degradation and he has taught as an adjunct professor various courses at Polytechnic Institute of NYU. He co-authored a book on health monitoring for infrastructure materials, published by Springer and he has several published journal articles in specialty journals and trade magazines.


Erik Madsen is has extensive experience in the design and construction of new building structures, adaptive reuse projects, property condition assessment and the design of temporary structures for construction. Prior to starting Madsen Consulting Engineering in 2010, he worked at DeSimone Consulting Engineering for more than eight years.

Erik is a member of the current NYC Department of Buildings Code Revision Structural Technical Committee for the new NYC Building Code and he was part of the previous committee for the 2014 NYC Building Code. He is the longest tenured state delegate at the National Council of Structural Engineer’s Associations (NCSEA). He is also a member of the Structural Engineers Associations of New York (SEAoNY) and NCSEA Codes and Standards Committee.

Erik has taught at a number of schools and universities, and he is currently an adjunct faculty at NYU’s Schack School of Continuing Education His renovation course is one of the most popular and intellectually rigorous courses in their continuing education department. Previously he was a visiting professor at Pratt Institute and an adjunct faculty at New York Institute of Technology. In 2010 Erik visited Haiti to perform building assessment after the January Earthquake.


Sarah Berkowitz holds a BFA from California Institute of the Arts in Theater Design & Production. Over the last decade, Sarah has created dynamic operational systems for a variety of clients including consulting companies, tech startups, touring artists, recording and rehearsal studios, and more.

She has produced several large-scale festivals in Los Angeles and she toured internationally with musicians. Her experience as tour manager helps her anticipate the needs of each stakeholder and seamlessly shift focus between the artist’s immediate needs, imminent performance commitments, upcoming travel, incoming requests, and all of the unanticipated curve balls and challenges in between. As the general manager of a rehearsal and recording studio, Sarah managed the details of seven rehearsal studios, a recording studio, and full rental department, managing both expectations and deadlines.

As the Director of Operations for Madsen Consulting Engineering, she has strong knowledge of the construction industry, processes, and has a keen eye for details. She brings her mastery of organizational systems, project managing, and creative thinking to the VM Consulting team.
